Medina County Federal Credit Union invites qualified students to apply for two scholarships each year. Credit union members can also apply for a $5,000 video scholarship from the Ohio Credit Union Foundation.

The deadline for MedFed scholarships was March 17, 2017. Students may still apply for the Ohio Credit Union Foundation Scholarship until April 30, 2017.

2017 Scholarship winners announced

Medina County Federal Credit Union has announced the two winners in its 2017 Scholarship Program. McKenzie Erne, of Valley City, and Matthew R. Kelly, of Creston, will each receive $1,000 to help them continue their education.

Apply for the $5,000 OCUF Video Scholarship

A $5,000 video scholarship opportunity for Ohio credit union members pursuing an undergraduate degree is available from the Ohio Credit Union Foundation (OCUF). Entrants must answer the scholarship question, “How does being a member of a not-for-profit credit union differ from traditional for-profit financial institutions?” by creating a 60-second to 2½-minute in length video. Video entries can be edgy, funny, bold, simple, serious – or anything in between.

To qualify for the video scholarship, student applicants must:

  • be at least a high school senior
  • be a member of an Ohio-based credit union, and
  • plan to pursue an undergraduate degree during the 2017-2018 school year.

Applicants must:

Create a 1 to 2½-minute video answering the scholarship question: “How does being a member of a not-for-profit credit union differ from traditional for-profit financial institutions?”

Video entries can be edgy, funny, bold, simple, serious – or anything in between.

Video entries must be submitted online via the Foundation’s website, www.OhioCreditUnionFoundation.org, by 11:59:59 p.m. EST Sunday, April 30, 2017. Video finalists, selected by a judging panel, will appear on the website and the scholarship winner will be announced May 22.

 

The Bernard R. Spechalske Scholarship

The deadline to apply for this scholarship ended March 17, 2017.

A $1,000 Scholarship for High School Seniors

The Board of Directors of the Medina County Federal Credit Union established The Bernard R. Spechalske Scholarship in 1994, in honor, memory, and recognition of Ben’s service to the Medina County Federal Credit Union as a member, director and president.

A $1,000 scholarship will be paid to the institution of higher education as specified by the scholarship recipient.

Eligibility
• Previous scholarship recipients are not eligible.
• The applicant must be a senior (12th grade status).
• The applicant (or parent, grandparent or guardian) must be a current member of The Medina County Federal Credit Union.
• The applicant must pursue an associate or undergraduate degree in an institution of higher learning.
• The applicant must complete and return the entire scholarship application.
• The applicant must include a transcript of grades and standardized test results (i.e. PSAT, SAT, ACT, Proficiency Tests, etc.) through the junior year plus a copy of the grade cards for the first semester of the senior year.
• At the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, a personal interview may be requested.
• The applicant must use the scholarship during the academic year immediately following the acceptance of the scholarship. If the scholarship is not used by June 30, of the following year, it will be forfeited.

The Medina County Federal Credit Union Memorial Scholarship

The deadline to apply for this scholarship ended March 17, 2017.

A $1,000 Scholarship for Current Students of College or Other Post High School Education

The Board of Directors of the Medina County Federal Credit Union established The Medina County Federal Credit Union Memorial Scholarship in 2000, in honor, memory, and recognition of those who have dedicated many years of distinguished volunteer service to the credit union.

A $1,000 scholarship will be paid to the institution of higher education as specified by the scholarship recipient.

Eligibility
• Previous scholarship recipients are not eligible.
• The applicant must be a full-time student attending an institution of higher learning (high school seniors are not eligible for this scholarship).
• The applicant must pursue an associate or undergraduate degree in an institution of higher learning. (college, trade school etc.)
• The applicant (or parent, grandparent or guardian) must be a current member of The Medina County Federal Credit Union.
• The applicant must complete and return the entire scholarship application.
• Enclose a transcript from the college/trade school and high school transcript if available.
• At the discretion of the Scholarship Committee, a personal interview may be requested.
• The applicant must use the scholarship during the academic year immediately following the acceptance of the scholarship.

If the scholarship is not used by June 30, of the following year, it will be forfeited.
