Windows 7 warning

Microsoft will end security updates and support for Windows 7 in January 2020

Online Banking and Bill Pay apps will stop working on Windows 7 devices on this date. Upgrade to Windows 10 is recommended.

On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will end all support and updates for Windows 7. MedFed will have all of our Windows 7 systems upgraded or replaced by that date. We strongly recommend that you upgrade your Windows 7 PCs also.

For security reasons, MedFed's Online Banking, Mobile Banking and Bill Pay apps will not work on Windows 7 devices after December 31, 2019.

Many other online services from other providers and institutions will also not work.

If you continue to use Windows 7 after support has ended, your PC will still work, but it will become more vulnerable to hackers, security risks and viruses. Your PC will continue to start and run, but you will no longer received software updates -- including security updates -- from Microsoft. Hackers could exploit security holes, share access information with other hackers, collect your usernames and passwords, access debit and credit card numbers, and steal tax return and other personal information.

Support for Internet Explorer on a Windows 7 device will also be discontinued on January 14, 2020. As a component of Windows, Internet Explorer follows the support lifecycle of the Windows operating system it is installed on.

Microsoft strongly recommends that you upgrade to Windows 10 before January 1, 2020.

Your options include:

  1. Switch to a new PC with Windows 10
  2. Switch to an Apple computer
  3. Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Some compatible Windows 7 PCs can be upgraded by purchasing and installing a full version of the software. For more information, see Windows 10 upgrade FAQ.
  4. Replace Windows with a free operating system like Linux, Ubuntu or Mint
  5. Consult with a computer professional to discuss your options.

You can learn more about Windows 10 on Microsoft's overview page.
